How To Make A Snowglobe
Making your own snowglobe is a great project for kids as well as adults and creates a good opportunity to spend some quality time with children. Snowglobes can be made with common things most people have just laying around the house. Makes a great inexpensive handcrafted gift for your friends and family.
Heres what you'll need:
- 1) Any glass jar with a tight sealing lid
- 2) Mineral oil, baby oil or water and a few drops of glycerin to fill the jar
- 3) Figurine / decorations to put in your snowglobe
- 4) Aquarium silicone sealant or hot glue to seal the lid and hold your figurine in place
- 5) Glitter or crushed egg shell for the snow/flitter
Thats it! All the special ingredients to make your own basic snowglobe.

Tips and Ideas for your snowglobe:
- 1) First off, children should always be supervised when dealing with any type of silicone sealant or hot glue gun. Be careful!
- 2) When filling the jar with fluid, remember to leave room for the figurine/decoration.
- 3) When using water and glycerin to fill your snowglobe be sure your figurine/decorations are made of materials that can't rust.
- 4) Try not to use figures or decorations that may have paint or anything else that might come loose after being submerged for some time.
- 5) Coat the edge of the lid with a light layer of glue and sprinkle with glitter to really make your snowglobe sparkle.
- 6) Glue ribbon or fabric to cover the edge of the lid.
- 7) Many jars have a lot of numbers or a logo on the bottom, to cover these up use a bow or glitter, or maybe another figurine or decoration.
